Rooted in quantum physics is the concept that “everything is vibration,” suggesting that all matter, energy, and consciousness in the universe exist in a state of constant motion and oscillation at specific frequencies. Frequency is the measurement of how often a repeated event occurs per unit of time, defined as cycles per second and denoted in hertz (Hz), where one hertz equals one cycle per second. By exposing the mind and body to the Solfeggio frequency, we can easily achieve a greater sense of balance and deep healing. Solfeggio frequencies align us with the rhythms and tones that form the basis of the universe.
Associated with meditation music, Solfeggio is known as the original 6-tone scale and frequencies used by Gregorian monks when they sang in a meditative state, with chants based on the original six notes: 396Hz, 417Hz, 528Hz, 639Hz, 741Hz, and 852Hz. Rediscovered in the mid-1970s by Dr. Joseph Puleo using Pythagorean numerology, the Solfeggio frequencies are now recognized as a set of nine sacred tones believed to promote physical and spiritual healing by aligning bodily cells with universal rhythms through entrainment, based on concepts from sound therapy and ancient music theory. They are often used for stress reduction, cellular regeneration, and emotional balance.
The system originated from an 11th-century mnemonic for learning chants and was later replaced by the modern Solfège system, which uses the syllables Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, La, and Ti to represent pitches in a scale. Some believe the original frequencies were “hidden” or suppressed by the Church because of their claimed spiritual and DNA-repairing powers. The tones are associated with the hymn Ut queant laxis to Saint John the Baptist, developed by Benedictine monk Guido d’Arezzo. Proponents of this theory believe these frequencies hold powerful, healing, bio-resonant qualities (connected to 3-6-9 mathematics) and that they were removed from Western music to limit spiritual consciousness.
174 Hertz
The lowest of the tones, this frequency is known as the “frequency of physical healing,” often used to relieve pain, reduce stress, and promote a sense of security. It is believed to work at a somatic level, grounding the body and easing tension by releasing pain and restoring comfort.
Pain management. Known as the “pain relief frequency,” it is often used for easing back pain, foot pain, and general tension.
Deep relaxation and safety. It is thought to resonate with the body’s energy field to enhance feelings of safety, stability, and grounding — acting like a restorative, calm, energetic anchor.
Reduced stress. Similar to other higher Solfeggio frequencies, it is frequently used in meditation to calm the mind and soothe the nervous system.
Somatic support. It is often utilized in trauma-aware, restorative, and yoga practices to aid the physical body in letting go of stress.
285 Hertz
This frequency is believed to promote physical healing, tissue regeneration, and immune system strengthening. Known as a “healing frequency,” it is often used for repairing damaged tissue, treating wounds or burns, and balancing energy fields, particularly by grounding the body and aligning with the root chakra. 285 Hz is often described as a “pure tone” which is often used in meditation or sleep music.
Tissue and organ regeneration. It is believed to send messages to the body to restructure and heal damaged tissues and organs.
Physical healing. It is used in sound therapy to speed up the healing process for wounds, burns, and other physical injuries.
Energy field balancing. It influences energy fields to encourage rejuvenation and health.
Root chakra grounding. It resonates with the root chakra (Muladhara) to enhance feelings of stability, safety, and security.
Immune system support. It is known for helping to boost the immune system.
396 Hertz
This frequency is believed to release emotional blockages, specifically targeting fear, guilt, and anxiety. It is used to transform negative subconscious beliefs into positive energy, promoting emotional liberation and supporting the achievement of goals by overcoming mental obstacles.
Fear and guilt reduction. It is believed to help overcome hidden blockages, fear, and guilt, which are often considered obstacles to achieving one’s goals and self-actualization.
Emotional release. 396 Hz is utilized to facilitate the release of trauma and negative emotional blockages, encouraging a state of, or journey towards, emotional freedom.
Improved mental state. Listening to this frequency is often aimed at creating a calmer, more focused mindset and reducing feelings of anxiety.
Spiritual insight. It is often used to deepen meditation, enhancing intuition and providing spiritual insight.
417 Hertz
This frequency, known as a Solfeggio tone, is believed to facilitate change, clear negative energy, and reduce stress. Associated with the sacral chakra, this frequency aids in releasing emotional blockages, promoting deep sleep, and fostering inner strength and positive transformation. It may also aid in supporting cell-level rejuvenation.
Clearing negative energy. 417 Hz is frequently used for “cleaning” environments, removing negative energy from spaces or individuals.
Emotional transformation. It is used to ease difficult emotional states, facilitate positive change, and release trauma.
Balancing the sacral chakra. It is often used to activate the sacral (Svadhisthana) chakra, which is responsible for creativity, emotions, and intimacy.
Stress reduction. The frequency is used for meditation and sound healing to reduce stress, anxiety, and tension.
Inner strength and stability. Listening to 417 Hz is believed to help overcome hardships and provide the mental strength for new beginnings.
528 Hertz
This frequency is known as the “miracle” or “love” frequency and is a tone associated with deep stress reduction, anxiety relief, and potential biological benefits. Studies suggest it may increase cell viability, reduce reactive oxygen species, and lower cortisol while increasing oxytocin within five minutes of listening.
Reduced stress and anxiety. Research indicates that 528 Hz music is more effective at lowering cortisol (the stress hormone) and increasing relaxation compared to standard 440 Hz music.
Potential cellular repair. Some preliminary studies suggest this frequency can increase cell viability and boost the body’s protection against free radicals.
DNA and light absorption. Known in alternative healing for “DNA repair,” studies have explored its impact on biological systems, with some evidence suggesting it affects cell health.
Improved mood and emotional health. Often associated with the heart chakra, this frequency is believed to foster feelings of love, calmness, and emotional balance.
Improved sleep. It is frequently used in meditation and sound healing for enhancing sleep quality and promoting relaxation.
639 Hertz
This frequency, also known as a key Solfeggio tone, is associated with harmonizing relationships, fostering love, and enhancing communication. It is frequently used for heart chakra meditation to promote emotional healing, boost positive energy, and facilitate understanding and connection.
Relationship harmonization. Often referred to as the frequency for love and understanding, it helps improve interpersonal relationships and foster deeper connections with others.
